Day 1
We left Adelaide after lunch on Sunday 16th May. Kevin and Ruth (Chris' parents who are kindly house sitting and working Hire for Baby for us) waved us off. I slept soundly for 2 hours so for me it was a quick drive to Port Augusta! We stayed our first night at Chris' sisters house at Stirling North. It was so nice to catch up with Nicoli & Tony while the kids had a wonderful night playing with their cousins Cody, Shaynee, & Brett. There was alot of laughter and Hide and Seek going on! Their hospitality of a home cooked meal and bed was so appreciated as were were very tired after a busy week preparing to leave. It hit me on Monday morning that we were actually on holidays when our neice & nephews had to get ready to go to school while Ryan, Mikayla, and Amy continued playing!
Pt Augusta to Cooper Pedy
I had run out of time to do grocery shopping in Adelaide so before leaving Pt Augusta we grabbed enough meat, fruit and vegetables for the next week. My parents (Keith & Gloria) have joined the us for the first leg of our holiday so they were towing their caravan ahead of us. We stopped at Woomera and checked out the display of rockets and missiles. This was all quite interesting and was a nice lunch stop.
Then it was 4 hours of driving north to Cooper Pedy and the kids took it in turns travelling in Nana & Pa's car. Aunty Nic had packed a bag of surprises for each of us for our holiday. Her rules were that we could pick out 1 lucky dip each time we would be driving for at least 300km, and we were to take the good with the bad. Ryans first surprise was a racing toy, Amy's was a packet ot tic tac lollies, and Mikayla's was a rubbish bag with a note to pick up all of the rubbish in the car!! She wasn't so impressed, but she did accept taking the good with the bad and is hoping for lollies next time!
We are staying at the Cooper Pedy Dessert View Underground appartments. One more easy night before we start living in the camper trailer! Chris use to live in Cooper Pedy as a boy so it is a thrill for him to have the kids experience sleeping in an underground appartment. It is pitch black when you turn the lights out!
Well thats our update. We are travelling very well with no arguements and so far the weather has been beautiful. Tomorrow we will explore Cooper Pedy some more then head towards Kings Canyon.
Love, Trudy
PS - Pictures to follow when we have a better internet connection, not from within a dugout!

Hi Schrapels.....Sounds like a blissfully civilized trip so far. Did you go noodling in Coober Pedy? Hope Mikayla got something more fun than a rubbish bag from her next pick of the lucky dip!
ReplyDeleteHello Schrapels - Looks like you are all having an amazing time. I see you have had some rain and red dirt to contend with...well done Chris!
