Pictures to follow tomorrow once we workout our new camera, now here's Ryan:
Day 3 - Coober Pedy to Mount Ebenezer
We all slept in because the underground dugout was so dark and they stay at 25C all year. I had nutri grain for breakfast, it was yummy (mums dinner last night was also great). I went looking on a dirt hill for some opals after we packed up, and I found some! Then we explored the history of Coober Pedy and looked at more opals at a museum and an opal shop.
We drove all day up the Stuart highway and stopped at Marla for lunch.
After a while, it got a bit boring in the car. We stopped at a little road house near Mount Ebenezer and setup our camper trailer for the first time on this holiday. I had dinner then went to bed.
Day 4 - Kings Canyon
We drove to Kings Canyon and had lunch in the carpark before going on a 3 hour (6km) walk around the top rim of the Canyon. After that it was getting cold and we wanted to find somewhere to stay so we went to the Kings Canyon resort and paid some money so we could stay there that night. We put up our camper trailer and had dinner. The caravan park was full of locusts and there was even a few in our camper trailer. Later that night we went to the outdoor BBQ/pub area to see the nightly entertainment. This night there was 2 comedy singers called the Roadies who invited all the kids onstage, so Amy and I went and played some musical instruments and other stuff, then they gave us a chuba chubs and certificates. After the kids turn, dad and another dad had to go onstage and sing a song about frogs, it was hilarious!! (dad thought he was very good). Then Mum had to go onstage and sing :do what di de dum di de do, which was also hilarious. Then we went back to our camper and hopped in bed, with more locusts.
Day 5 - Kings Canyon to Alice Springs
It rained all night and day. We packed up our camper and paid some money to get a permit pass to drive the Mereenie loop road through Aboriginal land to Alice Springs. The dirt road was full of mud and puddles so Dad had to drive slowly so we wouldn't skid around too much (it was still very slippery). At one time we hit a wash out (dip across the road) and the car got fully airborn for 4-5 metres!! - we got big air. We drove back to check out our tracks where we left the ground! Dad did well, it was lots of fun. Mum took photo's and video along the way. Dad said it was one of the slipperiest roads he has ever driven on.
We drove through lots of creeks flowing across the road from all of the rain.
We were going to stay at Ormiston Gorge but because it was raining we decided to keep driving to Alice Springs. We will be staying in Alice Springs for 5 nights.
Goodnight, from Ryan
